For online stuff I normally use TLC as I find there prices OK and they get the stuff out quick.

For 3 core 4mm SWA they quote £1.50 + vat per m.

My local wholesaler (Edmundsons) also quoted £1.50 + vat per m.

Thought I'd have a quick search on the net and found www.electricalshop.net

They quote £1.19 inc VAT per m up to 50m, and £1.05 above that. Delivery is around £5. Quite a difference and was surprised, has anyone used this company before, are they OK?

Anyone know any other cheap online electrical suppliers?

click here and sesrch for electrical wholesalers. go phone them for prices

Fair enough Andy, but Edmundsons are my most local wholesaler and usually pretty good prices, but they could only do me £1.50 per m + vat, electricalshop were a fair bit cheaper than that.

I'm not a trader so don;t get any trade discount from a wholesaler.

Overall you still cant beat screwfix

Maybe not, but their packaging is appalling - very little protection of the contents.

Also, mail order is all very well, but what are you going to do when your local merchant goes out of business and you need some supplies on a Saturday afternoon? Or when you actually need some advice or help on an unusual component from a face that knows you and wants to help? Where's yer wonderful Screwfix then?

yeah and like the real life sheds they only stock tiny sizes of SWA though. Theese appeal to the ignorant DIYer who knows nothing about volt drop disconnect time etc and just looks at the max current rating of the cable. But the well informed would avoid them like the plague for anything except lighting.

out of interest does anyone know of any online suppliers that sell split con?

at least they are open on sundays, there is also a screwfix less than 10 mins walk from where i live.

If you have never been to one its just like any catalogue shop, you fill in a little "ticket" pay for it at one counter, then wait for your number to be called and collect it at another counter, as for advice on what you wnat, dont think you should bother to ask

The amount you pay from a wholesaler will depend oon the discount you get, and that will depend on your business relationship with them.

I asked my Wholesalers this question and here are the quotes I was given.

4mm SWA 3 Core:

Edmundson: £0.91p/m
Newey&Eyre: £0.87p/m
WF: £0.92p/m
CEF: £1.01/m

All prices are plus VAT but include delivery to any location I specify.
