Checks before changing to a combi?

Had an interesting chat with a mate at work. He tells me that in order to avoid possible dissapointment with the hot water output from your new combi, you must make two vital checks before deciding:

1. Have you got enough pressure?

2. Have you got enough flow? ie water quantity, cos if it don't come in, it ain't gonna come out the boiler. Apparently this changes significantly from house to house down the same road.

Any comments lads
 
There must be a lot of people dissappointed with their high output combi's. Cos if their house don't have the flow, neither will their boiler :(

How can the flow change from house to house?
 
depends on the size / route of the incoming main

a lot of houses are still on 3/4"" lead or smaller

when it was put in it was just thrown in a trench and left

so any rubble that was layed on top could pinch the pipe etc :idea:
