chimney leadwork

I have had my roof retiled and the building inspector noticed that the leadwork at front bottom of chimney was the old leadwork. The stepped sides had been redone. Is it normal practice to leave old leadwork that is many years old. Thanks guys

If it`s not perished it can be left - it probably started as code 5 where new stuff would be code 4 probably - so even allowing for some years of oxidation it could be as good as new

Depends on how old the property is.
Our practice is to replace all old chimney stack flashings ( notwithstanding the original code) during a roof replacement or stack re-build.
I've occasionally seen code 3 used as back gutters, but more often as step flashings.

Why was BCO's attention drawn to stack/apron flashings? Most unusual in my limited experience.

Agree.

There is no need to remove existing lead flashings that are in fair condition.

House is 75 years old. BCO just happened to notice it prob trying to justify the fee of £135 for a five min visit. Quote included full replacement.

If the quote was for full replacement then they should replace it.
