Hi there,

I'm having the loft converted in a few weeks and we've decided to have the Chimney stack taken out as it runs right through the middle of the house. We're only having it removed in the loft and left in the bottom two floors of the house.

We also have a gas fire in the sitting room though, so what happens with that? Is it impossible to have a gas fire if there's no stack right up to the chimney?

Thanks.

The gas supply to the fire needs to be capped BEFORE any work is done to the stack/flue.

Do you have a suitable external wall to fit a b/f fire?

Gas fires are not very efficient, It would be better to use the heating.

Thanks for the response.

What's a b/f fire?

We were thinking of having an electric fire in its place, as the room is just too cold to rely on the radiator.
