I am currently involved in building a timber framed work area within a large steel framed barn. Although the barn is dry and weatherproof the entire area is unheated and therefore quite damp during the winter.

We need to clad the stud walls and ceiling of the new work area and cannot decide on the most economical sheet material to use which will be resistant to a generally damp atmosphere. Appearance is not critical as long as it looks reasonably tidy.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

I would use Viroc building board (a cement bonded particle board). If you use the thinnest board you need a little care handling the full sheets before fixing, and may want to use skirting and dado rails depending what impact protection you may need. Some of my offcuts are left outside and though they may curl a little when wet (not being fixed) they don't delaminate.
