ChrisR, I'd love to hear your verdict on rusty nail

Just posting again to get this to top of list!

And again.

PS If anyone sees ChrisR, can you tell him the wedding's off and his clothes are in the shed

I believe I said:
Leave it in a jar for a week.

" Over night the nail started to rust a bit (orange plume in the water around nail) and the grey tinge in the water fromn the first black drop settled completely to tiny bits at the bottom of the glass. "

...and after a week?

Ok, good point.

The nail rusted a bit at each end (where the suirfaces are roughter). This produced an orange bloom in the water. I suppose by the end of the week there was a little more but really can't see any change since. So there's this orange cloudiness in the bottom the the jar and the rest of the water is clear.

Looking forward to the verdict - it's like taking your car for an MOT!

Cheers

The verdict is.............(drum roll) put some flushing fluid in your system, leave for a week, drain down fully and then add some Sentinel inhibitor.
Sleep tight. :D

Sure, but it isn't really bad as it is. Sometimes half the nail's gone in a week!
I think it already has some inhibitor in?, in which case I'd add more of same and then try that, before messing with draining.

ChrisR, that sounds good. Would much rather not have to go through drain down.
Many, many thanks. I'll keep you posted on result in a few weeks when it's had time to work, or not.
Cheers

Hi ChrisR

Many thanks for your advice. Since putting extra inhibitor in haven't had to bleed rads at all.

Plus I found out from the instructions on the box that it's called venting - so now I know!

Fixed the leaky rad myself, so no need to go down route of 'but you said the work was guaranteed'.

Many thanks
