I've got a couple of woodwork projects coming up so I need a circular saw and a router. Only light DIY and probably no that much use so something at the budget end. Anybody seen any good deals?

I have a ryobi circular saw (£44 from B&Q) and a Ryobi router (£60 from Costco) that have seen very heavy DIY service and remain relaible and accurate.

For the money, I simply cannot fault them.

Unfortunately the ryobi router that I have is long dicontinued but the latest ERT2100 is available here for £100 and looks very very good for the cash (quite a lot nicer than mine).

IMHO, don't be persuaded by the price of a 1/4" router (they are cheaper). No offence to the previous advice but, aside from price, I don't see any advantage in the 1/4" router. The ryobi is compact and light enough for delicate work but has the power for heavy duty cutting and takes a larger number of bits. If you're going to have one router, get a 1/2" one.

As others have noted before. Ryobi offers a semi pro tool at DIY prices.

Well it depends entirely on what you plan to use it on, there are plenty of jigs which won't work with a 1/2 router and I wouldn't fancy trying to cut through a worktop with a cheapo 1/2 router...

I've got the trend 1/4 inch and a Dewalt 1/2 inch router and use them both equally.

The smaller one is great for cutting plastic down, jigs, laminate etc and the 1/2 goes through worktops easily.

The router you've linked to is very good for the price, looks a decent bit of kit. Just don't expect it to cut through a kitchen worktop IMO.

You'd be surprised. I have the much older 1300W version of the router I linked to and have used it to cut down several types of worktop (inc 1" hardwood).

I've used cheaper routers and am amazed by the quality of the ryobi compared to those. Can't prasie it enough and the new ERT2100 looks even better.
