Hi !

I have an intermittent problem with starting my Citroen Synergie 1.9 turbo diesel.

When it happens I have to pump the fuel through by hand, using the small bladder in the engine bay.

At first I'd just pump it once and the car would then fire up (in a big cloud of black smoke), but now I have to pump it a few times.

The garage suggested a clogged fuel filter and changed it, but this hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas??

The car has done over 180,000 miles by the way, so it doesn't owe me a lot!

Could try changing the leak off pipes on the injectors. Some of the older french diesels had problems with the pipes splitting and sucking air into the system.
Literally a couple of quid from the motor factors, and 5 minute job to fit

def sounds like you have air getting in if you have to prime it every time, check all fuel hoses for splits and loose connections under the bonnet
