Classic F.M

Excellent archive footage of the great man and his world during the latter half of the 19th and early 20th century make this documentary singularly excellent. Directed by Ken Russell, it's a little known and rarely shown work of art that's well worth a watch.

From 49.30 onwards, Ken Russell shot the last movie footage of Elgar's last home, "Marl Bank" on Rainbow Hill, Worcester - and of the view to the Cathedral from the window, which had never been caught on film before. Marl Bank was bulldozed in 1969 to make way for a block of flats.

This is one of the world’s most iconic Christmas songs, but few people know it was originally a Ukrainian New Year’s carol called Shchedryk.

Not exactly classical, but it is cello. Ilse De Ziah makes the solo instrument sound like an orchestra...

I've been working through this thread, playing all the pieces and now finally caught up... there is some superb stuff, all well presented by Odds. That boy should stick with music and forget politics!
