My cooker hood was already installed when I bought the house in August 2008 but I believe it was installed some time in 2003.

When we moved in the grease filters looked like they hadn't been cleaned for AGES so I gave them a good clean. It took almost an hour to get them clean and they were still a little yellow and sticky in places.

I'm wondering if there's a better way to clean them? I'm just using washing up liquid, as the manual says to use a neutral detergent.

Maybe hydrochloric acid? :p

I've looked at replacing them but they're £25 each (I need 2). Any tips on where I could get them cheaper?

Thanks

Aldi do them in 5 packs from time to time, and you cut them to fit yours.
Much more savoury than cleaning the old ones!
Try e-spares too for similar stuff.

Thanks John.

I've actually seen the cut size stuff but I assumed it would be pretty crappy.

I don't see how they'd fit properly? How are they held in place?

Standard filters are usually held in place with a wire clip bent in a 'W' shape......I can't comment on the quality of non original equipment but at £25 a throw - hey!
