I have been experimenting with various methods of removing masonry paint from Bath stone. The best method seems to be a chemical poultice (although expensive) which removes the paint but there is a dark staining left behind. I assume this is soot and pollution and probably the reason why the paint was applied.
Is there a cleaner that will remove this or does it need to be cleaned off with a French drag or some other tool.
