cleaning old set plaster from ladders

I have a couple of aluminium ladder / platforms i've used and the could do with a clean as they've had plaster on them over the years.

Is it sensible to use the power hose on them to clean them?

Get a piece of old rag soak it in water and wrap it around the plaster snots and leave it for a few hours then take it off and the plaster should have broken down. If not soak the rags again... You might be able to wire brush it when it has softened...
