On preparing an old wooden window for painting I spilled some of the wood hardener onto the stone window sill, and it has caused unsightly dark stains - is there any way to remove this ? What would you recommend ? Thanks

Rossua, good evening.

Can i suggest a call to the manufacturers of the hardener, have a talk with their "technical department" and see what they have to say??

Ken.

Heh - that's a good idea.

I have found something that has helped though. After a few days once it had set in, I took an old putty knife, a fairly stiff one, that I use for scraping weeds out between paving stones, and scraped right across the stone with the edge with some force, and it has taken off much of the stains, so the stone now looks patchy looking but overall a lot tidier as its all a light concrete type coloration. I tried wire brush also but that wasn't as effective. But I'm still going to contact the manufacturer and see what they say.

Rossua, good evening again.

Carborundum stone should work, i have seen them used either wet or dry, you will end up having to clean the top and the exposed face of the sill, also if there is another sill in close proximity you may ??? have to clean that as well just to keep the elevation looking "right"

I know this is late, but may help someone else on a search as I had to think for myself on this one.
Acetone (cheap nail polish remover) works a treat! My faff was a few obvious drips of Ronseal Wood Hardener
Dripped some wood hardener on paviors and riven slabs. 30 second soak with acetone and heavy dab + rub-over with an un-dyed rag or tissue completely cleared it. Residue evaporates swiftly.

ALWAYS test in an inconspicuous area first tho please!
