Looking for advice varnishing\protecting French doors for a customer.

They are oak veneered. Fitted some short time ago - appx 1-year if that. Customer "varnished" door themselves using internal clear varnish on the exterior. Has shrunk and resulted in fine cracks in varnish. Want redone with external.

Read some posts here. Recommendation appears to be Sikkens for best protection?

Keep seeing posts saying don't use clear varnish on own due to UV bleaching! Customer doesn't want colour or shade changed from the original though!

Will know more when door rubbed down, but looks as if there are already local areas that are bleached. Would just a correct external clear varnish still leave this shade difference?

Will I need to apply some kind of oak stain first - as subtle as possible though?

Cheers,
Neil

I would warn customer you cannot guarantee any colour change as they have damaged the doors by ignoring the correct procedure, they probably also failed to seal all round and the doors may have swollen or distorted.
