hi guys

the clutch pedal on my `99 t reg 1.0 litre polo is hard to push down and is not very smooth when being released, in fact it feels like its binding..what cud be the problem....clutch doesnt slip or anything..gears are difficult to engage sometimes....how do you adjust the clutch cable ?....or shall i apply some wd40 ..cheers

New clutch I'm afraid. Sounds like the thrust bearing has gone.

It need to be investigated further before a diagnosis can be made. Easy things first, strip of the cable to make sure it's not frayed or starting to seize. Also make sure the pedal itself is free to move up and down. If these two things are ok, you should check that the pivot swivels freely, it might benefit from a drop of oil.
Lastly if all else fails, remove the gearbox and see what's wrong in there.

first of all disconnect the clutch cable from the gear box & check if the cable moves freely without a load,

the wire rope cable could be badly frayed inside the sheaf.

if not bung a full clutch kit in.

cheers guys...im not very good with car maintanance....so im hopeing its just a clutch cable that needs replacing...clutch is fine no slipping or nothing....is there anyway to adjust the clutch cable...the biting point is very high....
