Coffee table hinges help!

Hello,

I'd be grateful for some advice. Not used the forum before and am a complete DIY novice so bear with me...

I've got a lift top coffee table that when opening/closing makes a fairly loud 'clunk' sound. It has hinges and a large spring visible on each side and I think one or both of the springs is making the noise.

Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to fix it?
