Hi all, i have a cold radiator in the main bedroom which is the furthest away from the boiler. Naturally this will be the coldest, as i have the boiler heat set to the minimum. Therefore is it more cost effective to have the boiler temperature higher(this will heat up the problem bedroom), and the adjustable taps on the other radiators set to a lower temp? Or the temp lower on the boiler and the adjustable rad taps set to the highest setting.

Thanks in advance

Is the rad stone cold?
Is the flow pipe leading upto the rad hot?
Does it have a TRV on it?
The pin on the TRV maybe stuck down.

Hi thanks for your reply. Its just luke warm. ive turned up the boiler to the highest temp and the bedroom radiator responds accordingly. Hence the question. Is it more cost effective to turn the boiler temp up, and reduce the rest of the TRV's

thanks

Yes you will want boiler on max to reap any reward from TRVs if any. If you have a thermostat on the wall knocking this down a little will save you a tad.

so what would be the most efficient way to heat the house? if the boiler is on min and the TRV;'s on max the heat is acceptable in all rooms but the problem bedroom. When the boiler is on minimum i can hear when the gas comes on which is a lot less frequent than if the boiler is set to a higher temp. Surely this would use less gas??

Jesus. Are you reading any info given to you? Let's put it another way. Would you try to get a pan of potatoes to boil on minimum or would you start them off high and reduce heat?

A boiler on minimum will take an age and a lot off gas consumption to heat a house in winter, even with full controls.

Set the boiler stat to max. Set any TRV to your requirements, they do not affect boiler, they shut flow such that a bedroom stays at a certain temp. Set your wall, remote thermostat if you have one to a desired setting that's comfortable for you ie 18-21c depends where the stat is situated. If you haven't got one and have only a timer, TRVs and running the boiler at min, you are peeing money.
