After fitting a 8.5KW gainsborough shower to the correct intalation spec,On operating the unit i am getting no hot or even warm water?can anyone help.

it's a gainsborough . What else do you expect 
On a similar note when I express my dislike for gainsborough showers i am talking about gainsborough showers from recent times (past couple of years) They are crap quality, and are a nightmare to fit, sometimes
Triton or Mira are a lot better
If you are getting no hot water check the connections and power are ok.
Newer gainsborough showers don't even have solenoids in them !!
