Cold water is slow until hot tap is run?

I have a mixer tap in the kitchen, a few inches from the stoptap. The cold runs very slowly - just a trickle - while hot water (fed from tank upstairs) is always fine.

But if I run the hot tap for 30 seconds, the flow from the cold tap is mysteriously back to full flow.

It's almost as if the heat from the hot water has cleared a blockage or expanded a valve somehow?

Any ideas on the cause?

Thanks for your reply. There's no flexible pipe - just copper pipe that runs from the stop tap about 10 inches up to the mixer tap.

Hot is obviously a separate pipe, so they don't come into contact until the tap itself. Something within the tap is affected by the hot water running that means the cold water flows well?
