Hey,
Currently in the process of switching to a combi boiler, but running into some issues with space. A reputable boiler engineer came round and confirmed that fitting a Navien combi (395mm wide) would be fine—our current boiler is 390mm wide. The depth of the cupboard is around 300mm.

I ended up ordering the same boiler through BOXT, as they were £1,200 cheaper than the quotes we received. However, after reviewing the photos, BOXT said installation wouldn’t be possible due to limited space.

Any boiler engineers here see a problem with this setup? Would a Worcester Compact (around 390mm wide) be a better fit?

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated, thanks

The Worcester Greenstar 28CD1 compact combi is 390 x 280 deep 690 high so would fit into the cupboard space. What output ratings were you looking for?

Not sure on output ratings? Enough to power 11 rads, don't have a shower unit at the moment. If we get hot water tank removed from the airing cupboard then potentially a shower in there. House is 4 bed. Thanks

The problem with a combi that not many realise is the hot water output. While its generating hot water, no heat reaches the rads, but relying on a shower rather that a full bath reduces the hot water loading considerably and therefore lack of heat to the rads is seldom noticed. So, with this in mind, the Greenstar Compact would be well in the running to suit your needs (y)
  • Suitable for small, medium and large-sized homes with one or two bathrooms, this boiler can be installed in a standard kitchen cupboard.

Boxt and the like won't want to do the job because they can't launch it in in a day and be gone by 3pm, no doubt the higher prices you've seen elsewhere reflect the difficulty of the installation site.

Yes it would be ideal for a local installer but the cost difference of £1200 is quite substantial

Also check what clearances are needed around the boiler.

Beware of Box(T)-slingers... Most of the cost of them fitting it doesn't go to the installers... So how much care do you think they'll have about your needs!
