Combi Boiler Over Pressure

Hi- I'm pretty new to this site and hope you can help.

We were just trying to add some more pressure to our R HE plus Combi boiler to get the upstairs radiators working better and we seem to have broken the boiler. It raised in pressure right to the top bar and started banging so in panic we have turned everything off. We are not sure where to find the pressure release valve ( as there doesnt seem to be a red valve which people keep talking about)- I am also a little scared to bleed one of the radiators in case it blows up. At the moment everything is off but its going to get very cold as we are snowed in!!

Our situation may sound daft but I am really in need of some help as we havent a clue what we are doing (also have a baby on the way in 3 weeks so need to get this sorted asap)

Any help you could give would be really appreciated.

If you cant find the pressure relief valve(which should activate at 3bar) just bleed a couple of radiators untill your pressure drops to 1.5bar cold then turn boiler on. what is the make and model of boiler?

When the PRV lifts, it makes you want to carp yourself but it is normal.....excellent post above.

its a Worcester HE Plus combi boiler. We did what you said and bled one of the radiators until the pressure normalised and turned it all back on (we were hiding behind cushions ) it had a flashing double backwards E sign which I remember from the manual so we left it for a while and the pressure raised to 3.5 bars again. We again turned off and bled the radiator to bring the pressure down and now it seems to have normalised as its not raised any pressure in the 3/4 hour.

We are going to turn off tonight just incase but do you think this has fixed it?

Remember, if the pressure rises above 3 bars, the PRV will discharge to the outside, keeping things safe.
Abnormal pressure rises are due to 1) The filling loop not being turned fully off 2) A fault in the domestic hot water heat exchanger, bleeding into the central heating side (expensive)
Sorry I don't know what the reversed E sign means...I prefer oil boilers

Thanks- we've got someone coming to look at it on Sat as I dont think the PRV is working properly-its due a service anyway.
