All,

I've been in my first house for four years now and I freely admit, I have probably neglected my combi boiler and now it's finally causing me problems.

The Manual folded up and stuck behind the pipes underneath the boiler says it's a Jaguar Combination Boiler however with no markings on the outside I dont know if it's the 23kw or 28kw version.

Problem as the title implies is loss of water pressure. Over the last couple of weeks we have noticed that the central heating has not come on in the morning and on inspection the boiler has shut itself off and displays a fault code. When I checked the pressure it was well inder 1.0bar and filling it back up to about 1.5bar with the braided loop under the boiler sees it happily switch itself back on and work. There appears to be only a pressure problem after the heating has been on and the system has cooled down.

This problem has become worse over the last month with us pretty much having to re-fill every day now. I have checked around all radiators and there are no signs of leaks at all. The pipe through the wall to the outside from the back of the boiler is dripping steadily. After reading a similar thread I thought it may be possible that the Pressure Release Valve was the source of the problem? Does this seem correct?

Finally, although i've learned a great deal having my own house and plumbing to "play" on i'm not too confident of fiddling around with the Boiler so if anybody can suggest a trustworthy Plumber in the Chester-Le-Street area that would be fantastic.*

*If this is breaking any forum rules then I apologise in advance and feel free to ignore.

Many thanks in advance.

does sound as though you need a new PRV, but the expansion vessel wil need checking and possibly recharging or the new PRV may well become soiled very quickly.
Sorry, dont know anyone in your neck of the woods

doesnt sound to me like you need a prv- it sounds like its working fine, first port of call, measure the air pressure on your expansion vessel, your manual will tell you what it should be- prob about 10 psi, get a bike pump- or even better-one of those portable car tyre inflaters you use when your car tyre goes down-this will have a pressure gauge on it- pressurise then moniter- air pressure can go down over time. the reason for your expansion vessel is when you heat your central heating-the water expands and needs to be stopped from blowing your rads off the wall- hence the vessel- or the prv if that has failed

kind regards
