Even with a drip you'll still lose pressure. What pressure are you setting the water to when cold? Also what pressure does it rise to when heating is on?
I suspect expansion vessel has lost some or maybe all of its pre air charge so instead of operating form 1bar (cold) to 2bar (hot) it most likely going from 1bar to 4bar or more. But the PRV opens at 3bar to save the day!
It is suggested the 'air' charge of the vessel is checked if the water pressure is reaching near to 3bar.
