Fitting a new combination boiler?
The radiators on my system are about 30 years old & the boiler about 18 years old. I want to fit a combi boiler but have been told due to the age of my old system I have to have new pipework & radiators, in other words a complete new system. The engineer told me not to flush out the system as the combi boiler would break within a year. I have another engineer coming out who says flushing out the system is fine but I may need some of the radiators replacing but not the pipework. Who do I believe?

I would renew the lot personally.

Local corgis can do you a complete new system for £2-3 k and they'll even dispose of that old nasty heavy copper pipe for you too.

If you take your "E" reg Ford escort into the Ford garage they will probably take one look at it and say its time to get a new car.

Another garage might say that if you have new sills, valance, wheel bearings, engine, fuel tank etc. etc. you will be able to get by for a few more years.

The same applies to your heating system!

The best solution will be to replace everything!

The next best solution will be to replace just the boiler and rads.

The least best solution is to replace the boiler and any rads which start leaking when they are cleaned.

Neither is wrong!

However, it always surprises me how people who spend £15,000 on a new fancy car can begrudge £2-£3 k on heating upgrades.
