whats this grants for school leavers stuff? I pay myd now 17year old apprentice £100 a week, he was a 16 yr old school leaver, nobody gave me a nats towards his pay.

Hes's worth about -£200 a week and is geting a top class free education from me, and begrudges every moment. His eyes light up on ay day and that;s your lot. Doesn't really communicate rest of week.

That's some youngsters for you. They don't appreciate anything, they think the world owes them.
I don't know how to get the grants, but they were common knowledge among the tutors. I'd find out for you if it wasn't holiday time.

I'd get rid of him Paul, you're a business, not a charity  There must be others who would appreciate a good job and respect you for training them

Mmm it was a good night on the cider, may be a touch too good and for that i give my apologies, I was also in a bad mood for some reason which is unlike me "most" of the time

I still stand by my opinion that the industry is over staffed and I really have no axe to grind re keeping it understaffed wot wif being a wage slave and all, the more the merrier I say I may be able to get time off. But it is still a fact of life that there are a hell of a lot more people wanting placements than there is placements for them, that must say something about the trade dont it?

My guv has put through countless retrainers at a considerable cost to me and I seem to get lumbered with their practical experiance and I must say I have seen a definate change in their attitudes.

about two years ago they all behaved like Billy Big Bananas and really seemed to think that they were doing us a huge favour in deeming to work for us, that all changed now as the guv is a bit more selective now and those who get on his training scheme are genuinly grateful and try harder to get further kwiker.

I can honestly say that I prefer training a 30 yr old as opposed to an 18 yr old as the 30's really seem to want and need to get somewhere whereas the 18 yrs are a complete waste of time.

As for being wrong about the NVQ3 I may well be but it was allways my understanding that you need to be employed by the industry to get NVQ3 as you HAD to show field work to attain it as it doesnt have the capabilty of giving you a "technical" award like the NVQ2.

If you wanted to get your 80hrs for your ACS doings I am sure that the guv would be happy to do that for you but its a long way to farnham surrey from chesire but B&B's are fairly cheap and you would get the undiluted pleasure of working with me for two weeks LMAO.

Any how if I came across as a git I do apologize again and I will do me homework before spouting again :)

Corgi, in my college, we couldn't apply for the NVQ2 grade without being employed by someone who has at least an NVQ3. For those not in the trade, top mark was a Level 2 Technical Certificate. Once in the trade, you can upgrade to NVQ2 as long as the leactures come out to asses you and your boss signs some document. You can only then go on to obtain NVQ3. If you still were not in the trade, you could not get NVQ3 only Level 3 Tech. Cert.

You do have to show evidence of work done, but you can have someone come out to your work while you're doing it to sign it off. In my case one of the tutors at college can do it. It's a lot easier if you're a "Plumber's Mate" though and your boss can sign off your work.
