I have had a new shower valve fitted on my Combi boiler, but forgot to tell the plumber that the hot & cold water pipes are the opposite way round to the norm. Is this a problem????

Just make sure the water doesn't get on the boiler's electrics.

Valve would be better fitted to your shower/bath though.

Plumber should have checked it for himself. If it is the wrong way round then don't be surprised if it fails to work properly.

It won't work at all.

When you turn on the shower, the water will be cold and so the thermostatic valve will go hard over to demand hot water. Since the hot water inlet is connected to the cold supply, it will stay cold and so will your shower.

If you did manage to get it to draw hot water, for the same reason the valve would go hard over to hot (trying to get cold water from what is now the hot inlet). This would be very dangerous as you'd get whatever hot water temperature your system produces.

One some valves, it's possible to turn the internals round to suit supplies either way round, on others it's not. The installation instructions should tell you.

The plumber got this wrong on my brothers downstairs shower - they had to break into the other side of the stud wall to swap the pipes round and then repair the wall.

Thank you.

I have spoken to the plumber and he agrees. Luckily we live in a bungalow and the feed to shower is seperate to the feed for the rest of bathroom and the plumber is coming back to swap the pipes over in the loft.

Cheers
