Hi all,
I need some advice relating to removal of a chimney from our house, it is a 1950's semi detached house. The chimney is centrally located in the house with no party wall or connection to an exterior wall. We have had a surveyor round for a very brief visit who said that we'd probably do better to remove the whole thing rather than just ground floor level (our original plan) due to the location of where structural supports will need to be placed (directly above a door so we would need to then reinforce all above the door apparently). Based on this advice my question was, who is the best person to contact now about this job, a structural engineer? A normal builder? They surveyor told us we shouldn't need permission from the council for the entire removal (but we would for the part removal). But we will contact them to double check.
Thanks in advance
