I want to fit composite cladding to the rear of my new extension (I originally typed "expension" - a Freudian slip....)

I have insulated blockwork as the construction. The extension will be part K-rendered and part clad. If the walls are cement-boarded then is there a good reason why I cannot fix the composite boards directly to the walls without battening?

Regards
