I have a 2.2kva generator which I think pushes out about 1,800 watts. I want to buy an air compressor of about 1.5 HP which I think draws about 1,100 watts. I know that on the face of it the generator should be adequate but I have been told that some electric motors need a large current in order to start. Is there any means of knowing the starting current of an electric motor?

ask the people who made the motor (since you havent got it yet)
