much higher, about 5000V. You may be wondering why this dosn't kill you, heres why:

It is current which kills, not voltage however the voltage has to be there to 'drive' the current through your body. The electric fence runs at a high voltage but very low current.

BR, in an everyday sense this may seem true, however I would point out that once a potential difference(voltage) reaches a certain point it can kill on it's own due to secondary effects, such as tissue damage.

Further, the real danger from mains Voltage is not so much the voltage or the current, but the frequency of the supply.

Most deaths from Electric shock are the result of ventricular Phibrilation, this is where the Heart attempts to beat at the same rate as the supply frequency(50Hz in the UK/Europe, 60Hz in the Americas)

This causes the heart muscle to tear due to the physical stresses placed upon it, and the result is a heart-attack, in laymans terms, as the heart stops..DEAD.

Thanks FWL, makes interesting reading! When you say certain point, what are we talking about roughly?

this definately a dry joint and could be traced and fixed for about £40.00 but bear in mind you could buy a 'good as new' second hand one for £50.00 due to everyone upgrading to 'TFT'
