I am looking at putting a CCTV camera into our kitchen that overlooks the rear of the house and the rear patio doors. As part of a previous extension there is a void behind some plasterboard that has a double plug socket mounted on it and I was looking to put a trailing socket from the existing double socket as a power source for the camera PSU. Does the new socket have to be fixed to a wall or can it be left 'floating' in the void being the plaster board.

The camera PSU will (should) have its own internal protection and is designed to be plugged in to a UK socket. NO inline fuse needed.
Remember that this sort of stuff is designed for the international market. Most of the World doesn't bother with fuses in plugs.
