We've got a fairly old Concord WRS bolier (15 years) that has been ticking over just fine even though it is quite old.

Just these last few days however the timer has started to slow down meaning we have to switch the heatinf on and off during the day rather then leaving it run on its own.

Is it worth trying to replace the timer on it's own? Or is it time to replace the whole thing?

Any help/thoughts much appreciated ...

We have lots of these on the area, but are gradually pulling all the conventional flued ones out (I work on a contract). Its time they were gone in truth as they are not very efficient and bound to be scaled up or the heat exchanger rusting through. However.

The timers fail long before the rest of the boiler so I'd do what we do if cost is a big factor. We get our electricians to wire in a modern-ish programmer and screw it to the wall next to the Ideal. It should not cost a lot, and the old one is disconnected.

Alfredo, that's a very useful steer. Thank you very much.

Cost is an issue for us short term so will contact a local electrician. Med/Long term we'll get it replaced.

Any recommendations for a replacement boiler make/type?

Boiler recs? Tell us size of house, no of rads, condition of rads, how many hot water outlets do you have, shower requirement?, local water pressure..is it good or bad..hard/soft water.

Probably a combi then
