is it right that if you have an 1.1/4" overflow pipe fitted you dont have to lag it cheers guys

Dan,
thanks for the reply albeit brief, we have had british gas out to service moms boiler...only installed about 12 months and they have given an advisory notice that the boiler is not to current standard because of this pipe, however the installer reckons that because the pipe is 1.1/4" it doesnt require lagging
who is correct

As Dan says it depends where you stay as to winter temp. Normally wouldn't need it, But. See what it says in the boiler instructions should tell you there.

if you can tell me th other info i will try to get it also not sure how to tell if its likely to freeze

Ambient temp in say central london is maybe 3degrees warmer in winter than the home counties, top of a mountain away from the coast maybe 20 degrees cooler. Exposure.

Same principle for recommended thickness of insulation in roofspaces.

Where in the country?

In Scotland a 2 or even 4 inch pipe might be needed if no lagging.

If in London, unless it's a massive long run then 32mm is fine.

If the pipe is only 6 inches long then overflow might be enough with a bit of lagging.

Then there is trace heating to consider.

It really just depends.

British gas like to scare people into buying unnecessary sh|t all the time.

Oi Dan settle, doesn't get that cold. But it is a pain when your pipe bender sticks to your hand as it is a wee bit frosty. LOL

The latest version of the Benchmark says "If the condensate pipe terminates externally has the pipe diameter been increased and weatherproof insulation fitted?" with no "No" option, so I think it's now a requirement.

It'll be fine ,
Surprised b/g didn't reccommend a power flush

if they make a recommendation and we dont carry it out does that invalidate the warranty on the boiler?

No it doesn't, if that were the case they'd have a free reign to go around making recommendations just to make extra money, the list would never end!
