Confused

At the moment my thermostat is set so that the central heating is not running. All the radiators in the house are cold, which is what you would expect, with the exception of one, in the bathroom which is red hot. How's that ??????

The boiler is currently heating up a nice hot bath for me. Is that the reason. If so why and why aren't the other radiators hot as well.

My old gravity hot water, pumped heating system had a restrictor fitted in line with the pump which, while not appreciably affecting the pumped flow, stopped any gravity flow through the radiators.

Maybe your system needs something similiar ?

Sounds like he may have a combi and boiler diverter is letting by.

The water that heats up your hot water tank has a spiral pipe that goes from the boiler to the tank, through the spiral and back again. The rad is taken off this supply so that it's warm when you have a barth.

He might as well have called himself U. Rynal.

I think that you might assume thats its a wind -up.

Just to clarify, in case anyone finds this misleading...

The spiral that joe refers to is a helix (aka coil) of copper pipe inside an indirect DHW (domestic hot water) cylinder - primary water, from the boiler, passes through the 'coil' and heats up the water that is stored in the cylinder before returning to the boiler to be heated again. This circuit can be pumped or gravity-driven.

joe is quite correct in pointing out that it's very common for a bathroom radiator or towel rail to be plumbed into this circuit, so that the bathroom (being the room in which you're most often at your most naked) is warm even when the central heating is turned off.
