Hello there!

Just knocked down a dividing wall in the bathroom/toilet.

Now i have 2 lights and 2 switches. Im going to keep both lights but want to connect them both to the switch on the left hand side of the room.

The pic shows the wiring in the loft, and the red line is where i was thinking of connecting the second light.

Will this work? can you see any reasons to why this is unsafe? How can i safely blank out the cable that used to run to the old switch?

Thank for any advice

Sion

You will find several cables in the second light. However it depends on how your circuit has been wired.

You need to pull out all the cable between the light and the switch, but as I said the circuit might have some obscurities, they aren't all the same. See the wiki (blue bar, top of page) for info on lighting circuits.

I think is just 3 cables tbh, red black and yellow/green i think

I was just thinking of branching it over to the other light and have only one switch control them both

Am i thinking of things too simply?

Thanks

In short yes. You need to know how the circuit is wired to proceed. Like i said, there are many ways to wire a lighting circuit and you only have one.

You cannot simply have a link as you propose, as you need to remove one of the switched feeds for the second lamp, and remove any permenant live wires from the second lamp and switch.

Right, yes your right! Sounds like work for a pro!

Thanks Crafty for your help mate, much appreciated

Regards

Sion
