We need to replace the rotten ends of floor joist in our first floor bathroom. Is there a recommended size of bolt for this purpose? And would dog toothed timber connectors be necessary?
Connectoors are good but not absolutely neccesary.
Generally we use 12 or 16mm allthread for jobs like this. We have used 22mm allthread at times but that is really only needed for huge timbers.
As a very rough rule of thumb about 900mm minimum overlap with the first bolt set no more than 100mm in from the end and then spaced around every 200mm or so and alternating a third up from the bottom and a third down from the top.
