Connecting ipod to stereo via phono

Hi

I have tried to connect my ipod to my stereo system using the phono plugs. However, the sound is terrible. Very muffly, and almost sounds like it is in mono.

Have i missed something obvious? dodgy cable? wrong wattage? not enough power from the ipod?

Phono inputs are very sensitive and have heavy equalisation on them to make the output from a pickup sound correct. (It's called RIAA equalisation if you want to google for it).

You need to go into tape, CD, aux, tuner, or basically anything other than phono.
