Connecting new pendant light (only L/N) to old wiring (L, N, E) in France

Hello everyone,

I am replacing an old ceiling light in my kitchen here in France and need some advice on the wiring.

My existing ceiling wiring has three wires : L,N & E

My new pendant light fitting only has two connection points: L & N.

It has no terminal for the Earth wire.

My question is: What is the correct and safe way to handle the Earth (E) wire?

I have read that I should never just cut it off or leave it unconnected. Should I:

1. Connect the L and N as normal and safely terminate the Earth wire in a separate connector block?

2. Is the new light fitting safe to use if it has no earth connection.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Presumably, the new Light fitting is of Plastic construction,
has only a two wire connection and is labeled as being "Double Insulated".

Just "Connect the L and N as normal and safely terminate the Earth wire in a separate connector block"
as you have already suggested.

This has nothing to do with "old" or "new" wiring. Looping in and out at the switch and bringing only a single cable to the light fitting is more common on new builds, but looping in and out at the fitting (as is the case here) was and is still perfectly acceptable.
