connecting to old soil pipe

I have just installed an indoor bathroom to our recently purchased house (hasn't changed since 1950) but all I have to do now is connect the new soil pipe to the old. I've dug down and down and down and found the old ceramic/clay soil pipe which i need to cut and install a 3 way connector.

However the pipe is a metre underground and is about 10" in diameter.

Anybody got any advice???
