can anyone explain how to connect wall lights to existing ceiling light using a double pole switch, using main light switch as supply for wall lights

Are you going to keep the existing ceiling light?

By double pole, do you really mean two gang: ie two switches, one for the existing lights and another for the new wall lights?

Can you post a photo, or describe, what wires are connected in the existing ceiling light and at the switch.

yes keeping ceiling light and yes i mean two gang swtich

wires in swtich are
from ceiling light; live, neutral and earth
and from wall light switch; live, neutral and earth.

thought if i loop the live to the live it would work but didn't

Ah yes but you probably do not have live and neutral at the switch.
The neutral will be at the light fitting.
At the switch you will have two wires from the lgiht fitting (red and black, maybe?) This will probably be live in and switched live back out. The black should have a red sleeve on it. Just cos its black doens make it neutral.

Details of the light fitting will confirm what you've got.

yes this what we have at switch
at ceiling light the fitting is;
black from one cable connected to blue at light
second cable has black connected to brown at light
two live taped together from both cables
two earths from each cable connected to earth from light
