Hi everyone

I want to connect a washing machine directly to my boiler. Can it be done?

I have attached a picture. I think the white cylinder on the bottom left can be used to drain. But can I get water from the boiler into the washing machine ?

That’s not a boiler, it’s a heat interface unit. If you have an old machine that requires hot and cold then you need to work out which is hot and which is cold, if cold fill only then you need to work out which is cold. As for the drain you also need to make sure that pipe connects to a foul drain.

If it's an HIU then I wouldn't go playing about with it. Be it taking a direct feed from it or breaking into it's drain.

I wouldn't recommend filling the machine with only HW .... most washes run @ 30/40deg, your HW will be > 50Deg so you would have no way of regulating that.
It can shorten the wash cycle with a lot of machines as the stat inside the machine will reach temp a lot faster, or immediately and cold fill machines cycle times incorporate the time it takes to get to temp.
A lot of BIO detergents won't work correctly if the water's too hot either as it would kill off the enzymes it contains
.... annnnd if you rinse clothes in HW then they can end up seriously creased oh and it's a bit of a waste of energy.

Can you tell I looked into this ages ago, as more and more people were asking about it .... ;)

If you're looking to save money in heating cold-fill water by the machine's electric element, fill a watering-can with hot water from the tap and pour that into the detergent drawer when the machine is filling.
