Contactors and Emergency Lighting

I'm wiring 2 lighting circuits through a contactor to be controlled by a single switch. Both circuits include an emergency light. Should considerations be made for emergency lighting related to a contactor/coil failure as the coil feed will be on a separate circuit. Initially I was going to use normally open contactors but am now considering normally closed so if the contactor failed the lights would be on. Or is the emergency lighting only required to operate on a total loss of power?

Why use a contactor? Why not just have 2 switches?
What type of emergency lighting is it? Maintained or non maintained?
Generally, non-maintained should illuminate on the failure of the local lighting circuit.

A double pole switch might be simpler?...

I would say that the em lighting should trigger in the event of a contactor fail. Contactor fail or power could cut both equal darkness.

Just use a normal NO contactor. EM lights are normally placed on the contactor circuit. Failure of one circuit of lights wouldn't plunge the whole room into darkness.
