Am I right in thinking that when this is done there will be no harm leaving the old Rod connected or should I remove it

I think it will be better disconnected and removed, otherwise it will need to be connected with an adequate sized conductor to the DNO spec. 2nd opinion would be nice :D .

a local rod on a PME is a good thing but the sizing rules for PME main bonding are there for a reason.

so if you do keep the rod make sure it is connected with cable as big as the main bonding.

Someone told me once that there is some iee guidence that advises an earth electrode on a TNC-S earthed installation... helps with the 'M' in 'PME' you see...

As plug says, make sure the cable to it is of a reasonable size
