I'm after some advice,

I have a Glow worm hideaway 70 boiler which is designed to run a vented Central heating system. I need to remove the header tank that is in the loft and as such want to convert this to a sealed system. The problem is that in the documentation for the boiler it states that it shouldn't be connected up to a sealed system. However in the same document it also states that the header tank can be anywhere from 1-27 metres above the centre line of the boiler. If my maths is correct 27 metres give you a pressure of 2.65 bar. If I used a sealed system but ensure that the pressure never gets above 2.65 bar using a pressure relief valve do you see any problems with converting this system.

It will only be short term as the boiler will be replaced in the next 6-12 months.

Thanks in advance

Andy...

Do you really think anyone serious on here is going to say that you're right and the people who designed and built the boiler are wrong?
Why don't you ask Gloworm?

Give it a try it might last a couple of hours.

Try blocking the vent on the hot water cylinder and changing it to mains fed, just for fun

If the makers say 'no sealed systems' then that's what they mean. If you go ahead and fit one and it goes bang and floods the place / burns it down, your insurance company will say 'Pity about that. The heating system was modified against advice so that the boiler blew up. No pay out!'

If you ignore a specific prohibition by the maker, you must be certifiably insane!
