I am planning a new kitchen layout and have a question regarding the location of the CCU (which will control an under counter double oven) in relation to the gas hob. Is there a minimum horizontal distance from the side of the hob that the CCU must be positioned? Also bearing in mind the requirement for cable runs to be vertical or horizontal from a fitting how is the cable from the CCU to the outlet best run to the back of the oven - presumably vertically down then horizotally along to the oven. Does this not contradict that requirement unless enclosed in steel conduit?

As long as you don't have to reach across the hob operate the CCU.The cable to the outlet will be in the safe zone as it is vertically below the CCU and the horizontal from the outlet

There is no specified distance in the regs, but it is generally accepted as the norm to fit it 300mm away from the hob.

If your cable from the CCU to the outlet plate drops vertically from the CUU and then turns 90 degrees to run horizontally to the outlet plate then it will remain in the safe zones, and not require additional protection.

You can see the permitted cable routes for a CCU in the left hand side of this diagram (Any of the green shaded areas, but NOT the red)
