Hi

I'm going to be fitting a new hood above the cooker.

The problem I got is the power cable is too short.
It's an IEC lead (like a kettle cable) that unplugs.

I was wondering if I could just buy a longer IEC lead and use that?

I was thinking about getting a 5m lead and cutting it down to suit?

Thanks

Joe

To go where?

Extension lead ?

Yes, of course - if available.

Extension lead on original ?

You could always install it properly.

Hi

The power cable that's on there at the moment is really short.

I'm going to use a new longer IEC lead.
Then I can run the cable neatly rather than do a bodge with what's on there at the moment.

The cable will run to the FCU thats on the wall ready

And it would be installed properly :)

Unlike what I replaced. Which was an FCU placed above the outlet of the old hood.
They wired it from a socket using 1.5mm T/E cable and used a 13 amp fuse.

I just wanted to make sure I can use any other IEC lead.

Ok. I take it you are going to cut off the plug and connect to the FCU?
That's fine.

It is. I was imagining the cable hanging across the cupboards to a socket.

Nothing wrong with that.

I'm confused again. Where is the FCU you are going to use?

Yes, if the rating is correct - it will be for a hood.
You may need 3A fuse if cable rated less than 13A.

Yes of course.
And I'll cut the cable down to the required length.

Nothing wrong with that.

I didn't think it's very save to have hot air venting directly on to fused spur.

And I was always told never spur off from a socket using 1.5mm cable.

Heres something I quickly made ;)

It won't be that hot up there.

And I was always told never spur off from a socket using 1.5mm cable.
Yes, you are correct. Sorry to mislead you.
Although electrically satisfactory it is against the rules for a ring final circuit.

Yes, that's good.

Thanks for the help

Although I've done a fair bit of electrics and worked for an electrician in the past. I like to made sure what I'm thinking is correct before I do it.
