Hi,

Just a quick question - ground floor of house all floorboards except kitchen which has a concrete floor. One little section of the kitchen which used to be a larder has floorboards though, and I need to concrete this section so I can tile the floor.

But, running under the little section of boards is some copper gas pipe, that goes to the cooker. Can it be made inaccessible by me concreting that patch (1m by 0.5m) and if I can do that, how do I do it so pipe is protected from mechanical stress and corrosion from concrete? Surely I don't need to get a gas man here for a flooring issue, do I?

Thanks

It certainly needs protection and best allowing for some movement. I would wrap it with pvc tape - spirally wound with 50% overlap is the way... then put pipe insulation around it, then wrap that aswell with pvc tape - 2" tape would be best for this bit. Then concrete it in without stressing or damaging the pipe as you tamp it down.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps.

So no building regs or gas regs that say I shouldn't make it impossible to get to the pipe? I wondered as nearly all the pipe is accessible via the living room floorboards, hence my concern that it's supposed to be.
