I want to give my Cordyline Australis Palm to my daughter as the house is on the market..

Anyone know if it can be moved now and approx how big would the root ball be of a palm of some twenty years with the main trunk 2mts tall and a girth of 20cm.

yes it can be moved. give it plenty of water before and after, along with a well prepard hole with plenty of compost and grit. The rootball will probably be about 1m diameter x 500mm deepish. that does depend on the individual plant however

remove as much of the central tap-root as is feasible and water it for about six months after you move it.

cutting the tap root will not do it much good, its the main root and you need to cause as little shock to it as possible.

the tap root is the main feeder to the plant. It needs to be excavated as carfully as possible. yes you probably will need to cut it at some point, but to remove as much as possible is likely to endanger the plant. you do it your way, i know which way ill do it.

My fault for not making myself clear..

I meant remove as much of the tap root as is feasible FROM THE SOIL not from the plant.
