Cornice for cabinets

I am building some alcove cabinets either side of a chimney breast. I want to finish the tops with some decorative cornice. Ideally MDF, but if not softwood is fine as it will all be painted. Traditional sort of style moulding.

I am having real issues finding any suppliers of suitable product - I only need about 6 linear metres, and I can't seem to find any local (Essex) or online suppliers who can do a small qty for a reasonable price.

So two questions :

Anyone have any recommendations for suppliers of cornice?
If not can I make up my own using MDF and some smaller off the shelf from B&Q trim pieces? I will probably need some sort of inspiration or guide in that case (something to copy in other words).

Many Thanks.

Hi - I am after something a bit more ornate - I guess a bit like wooden coving. It seems a lot less prevalent here than perhaps the US where they love their crown mouldings. Something like this :
