last week my van wouldn't start i'd had no problems with electrics ect before this. managed to jump start it and all was ok for 7 days then the battery light came on and eventually all panel lights came on and i lost power on the steering and once i'd turned off it wouldn't restart.

The problem was diagnosed as a faulty battery and a new on was fitted today but the battery light has staid on and also some of the warning lights.
as anyone got any suggestions please.

I would say that this was more likely to be an alternator, rather than a battery problem - if I understand your post correctly.

Yes it looks like the alternater that means i've just paid out approx £100 to have a battery fitted that i probably didn't need
